چکیده

Via a non–perturbative method we study the population dynamics and photoelectron spectra of Cs atoms subject to intense chirped laser pulses, with gaussian beams. We include above threshold ionization spectral peaks. The frequency of the laser is near resonance with the 6s-7p transition. Dominant couplings are included exactly, weaker ones accounted for perturbatively. We calculate the relevant transition matrix elements, including spin–orbit coupling. The pulse is taken to be a hyperbolic secant in time and the chirping a hyperbolic tangent. This choice allows the equations of motions for the probability amplitudes to be solved analytically as a series expansion in the variable u = (tanh(πt/τ) + 1)/2, where τ is a measure of the pulse length. We find that the chirping changes the ionization dynamics and the photoelectron spectra noticeably, especially for longer pulses of the order of 10 4 a.u. The peaks shift and change in height, and interference effects between the 7p levels are enhanced or diminished according to the amount of chirping and its sign. The integrated ionization probability is not strongly affected.

One of the most striking surprises of recent years in intense laser-matter interactions has come from multiple ionization by intense short laser pulses: Correlated (nonsequential) double ionization rates were found to be several orders of magnitude higher than the uncorrelated sequential mechanism allows. This discrepancy has made the characteristic “knee” shape in the double ionization yield v...

Study of laser ablation using nano-second laser pulses

In this paper, the laser ablation process based on the irradiation of nanosecond pulsed lasers on a copper target surface in the presence of Helium gas is studied. The dynamical behaviors of the generated plasma in the helium gas and evaporated copper at the atmospheric pressure are examined using a laser pulse, laser wavelength of and intensity of 7×1010W/cm2. A one-dimensional thermal model ...

Multiple Ionization of Atoms by 25 and 7 fs Laser Pulses

Double, triple and fourfold ionization of rare gas atoms has been studied using a “reaction microscope”. We show that ionization dynamics drastically depends on atomic species and present the first data obtained with few-cycle pulses. Since the first experimental observation of doubly charged ions produced by intense laser field [1], many-electron dynamics in laser-induced ionization has been t...

Strong light fields coax intramolecular reactions on femtosecond time scales.

Energetic H(2) (+) ions are formed as a result of intramolecular rearrangement during fragmentation of linear alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol, hexanol, and dodecanol) induced by intense, pulsed optical fields. The laser intensity regime that is accessed in these experiments (peak intensity of 8 x 10(15) W cm(-2)) ensures multiple ionization of the irradiated alcohol molecules such that Co...
